Tata Group-owned Air India and Air India Express have increased fuel surcharges on domestic and international flight services, adding to the travel costs for passengers. The revised charges will come into effect from October 9. Air India said the decision was taken amid a sharp rise in operating costs following an increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices.
Depending on the distance, the fuel surcharge on domestic flights has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 1,200, while the surcharge on international services has been raised by $55 to $215. Meanwhile, private carrier Akasa Air has also reintroduced fuel surcharges on domestic flights and increased the existing surcharge on international services. Its revised domestic surcharge will range from Rs 375 to Rs 1,150 based on the distance.
